Missing Months in a Bank Statement Package
Oct 16, 2026 · Varaxon Technologies LLC d/b/a StatementReady
This is general practice for education, not underwriting guidance. Program rules vary; check your lender's current guide.
A 12- or 24-month bank statement loan needs every month in the look-back period. A single missing month can stop the file at underwriting.
Check the package
- List every month the program requires, by account.
- Match each statement's period (start and end date) to the list. Statement cycles don't always line up with calendar months.
- Check page counts, so no statement is missing pages.
- Check the most recent statement is recent enough for the lender.
Request only what's missing
Send the borrower one specific request: account, month and reason. Vague requests ("send all your statements again") produce duplicates and new gaps.
Collect it securely
Avoid email attachments for bank statements where you can. A secure upload link tied to the loan keeps statements out of inboxes. See our guide to collecting bank statements securely.
After it arrives
Confirm the new statement fills the gap, reconciles, and doesn't bring a new large deposit or NSF that needs attention.
FAQ
What counts as a month?
Each statement period the program requires. Cycles that don't match calendar months are normal; cover the full look-back period.
Can the borrower upload directly?
Yes, with a borrower upload link tied to the loan file.
Do I need every page?
Yes. A missing page often shows up as a statement that doesn't reconcile.
